IT ALL STARTED HERE...

During the global pandemic our lives took a turn to confirm more than ever that imminent change is needed. Here is how The Urban Permaculture began.

March 2020: it all started during lockdown, experimenting with our urban balcony in Strasbourg, France. From closed farmers markets and supplying issues with deliveries of fresh produce, our two friends that produce organic vegetables and seeds from the Mediterranean region sent us some organic seeds and the experience began.

In two months, our balcony became an urban jungle and with the base of urban permaculture we grew a variety of flowers, vegetables, and aromatic herbs. By combining different varieties, we created a system of plant families helping and interacting with each other. With recycled water bottles, our semi hydroponic system worked perfectly, and we could grow in minimum space.

As our balcony became more and more green and we were able to cook recipes with our home-grown produce, we documented everything with photos, designs and drafts. Beginning of May we decided to open an Instagram account (@humusculture) to share it all, where a first community of interested people was born and enjoyed the content, recipes, and ideas we were sharing.

Today, I want to allow more people to join us to green our cities in a durable, easy and responsible way. For that, I have been working with amazing talented partners and developed The Urban Permaculture’s first products: from Europe, 100% organic seeds, using only durable and 100% recycled or biodegradable materials to grow from home, with minimum space. For that reason, we regulate the water and nutrients through the semi-hydroponic system, in relation with its energy font being the Sun. This semi-hydroponic system allows you to grow more with less. Less space, less water, less soil, less maintenance and you won’t need to transplant.

With sensibility, consciousness and engagement, The Urban Permaculture aims to enhance the power of photosynthesis within our urban lifestyles.

Having lived in France, Germany and Catalonia, I believe, together we can all green our European cities with edible photosynthesis!
